As tensions simmer amidst ongoing farmer protests, several farmers' unions, including the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), have declared a Gramin Bharat Bandh or nationwide strike on Friday, February 16, to press their demands to the Centre.
The call for Bharat Bandh coincides with the disruption faced by hundreds of farmers marching from Punjab, who have been halted at the state's border with Haryana near Ambala. Security forces in Haryana deployed tear gas to deter their progress, approximately 200 kilometers away from Delhi.
In response to the Bharat Bandh call, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) urged all like-minded farmer organizations to unite and participate in the day-long protest, scheduled from 6 am to 4 pm.
Emergency services such as ambulance operations, marriage, medical shops, school, etc., will not be affected during the Bharat Bandh on Friday.
